A few of our favourite masks… and face mask rituals!
- Dr.Hauschka’s Rejuvenating Mask- Why I like it…not your typical face mask (no mixing with water and looking like a swamp monster), this cream based mask offers soothing care and deep renewal for all skin conditions including dehydrated. The appearance of redness and blemishes diminish and pores are refined. Skin glows with radiance afterwards. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse off OR just use in place of your moisturizer for the day – no need to wash off.
- Eminence Organics Eight Greens Stimulating- Love it!!! Hot, but not to hot!! Perfect for sensitive skinned types who want a little circulation and a rosy glow! This hot mask helps nip my hormonal acne in the butt and gives a radiant glow (after the redness calms down).
Yay for mask month!
One of my favourite face mask rituals requires a couple of hours:
I grab my swim suit, flip flops, mug of tea, mask supplies, and dress in my comfiest clothes. I then head to the public pool closest to my place (Bonnie Doon) and retreat to their steam room.
I remove all my make up and wash my face before hitting the pool deck. I usually stay in the steam room for about 10 minutes and take a 5 minute break in the hot tub or pool, and I do that for about an hour so. I find its a nice escape from the busy pace of the day, to just sit and reflect with out being stimulated by any texts or emails etc. I always make sure I’m hydrating enough throughout the steam, hence the tea.
Once I feel that my skin is happy and my pores are all open and cleansed I head to the sauna where the mask magic happens! At Bonnie Doon, each fitting room has their own sauna which is really nice.
My favourite mask mix includes:
- about a tablespoon of glacial clay
- a glob of raw honey
- two drops of dew dab by living libations
- a couple drops of water.
- I mix it into a paste, apply, and then relax in the sauna. I usually stay in there for about 10 minutes. This mask combination tends to melt off with the heat and sweat, so the clay doesn’t feel like its pulling too much moisture which I like.
I always get some funny looks and a lot of questions “what’s on your face!?” “why do you do that?” most women think its a great idea and I’ve shared a couple of times. I rinse down, wash off my mask, and crawl back into my comfy clothes. My skin always feels so refreshed and soft after. Plus you sleep like a baby!
- Eminence “Red Currant Rapid Infusion Masque – with the natural alpha hydroxy acids it exfoliates my skin while it’s on. It leaves my skin looking and feeling like Spring – fresh and glowing.
- Antipodes “Aura” Manuka Honey Mask – it’s rich and smells amazing. I don’t wash this mask off, I simply apply it and leave it on overnight for all the nutrients to soak in and nourish my skin.
- My favorite mask combo is the 8 Greens Hot Masque followed by the Clear Skin Probiotic Mask both by Eminence. I use this combo when Ifeel my skin is feeling a bit stressed out and needs some TLC or when I have an occasion coming up that I want to be glowing for. I find the hot and cold sensations of the masks feel amazing and my skin is so happy afterwards!
- I also really enjoy the Dr.Hauschka Moisturizing mask. I use it very lightly as a face lotion when the seasons are changing (and sometimes more frequently through the winter) when my skin tends to get more dry.
