3 Ways to Use Essential Oils in the Bedroom: A Date Night In

Feet in Bed

The pace of life today is fast. Amidst all of the areas of our life that constantly need our attention, it seems our romantic relationships are most easily neglected. This is not because they aren’t important, but simply because we feel our partners are the most understanding. They are the ones who will kiss us on the forehead at the end of a crazy day and make everything right in the world.Feet in Bed

So instead of neglect, how about showing blissful thankfulness… Here are a couple of ways you can use essential oils to slow down and show that person that no matter how hectic this life can be, you’re in it together and you’d have it no other way.

3 Oils With Aphrodisiac Properties

  • Vetiver – A distinct, dark, almost syrupy oil. Commonly used for its calming influence on the nervous system. Perfect for someone who has an overactive, overworked, or exhausted mind. It stimulates circulation and has a grounding effect. Careful – a little goes a very long way.
  • Cocoa – Brings upon an overall feeling of joy (of course, its chocolate!) aids in reducing anxiety while increasing sensual pleasures, including sex.
  • Ylang ylang – A euphoric oil. Used to instill a sense of peacefulness, can calm anger, anxiety, and fear. Perfect for reducing nervousness and frigidity prior to sex. In Indonesia, ylang-ylang flowers are scattered on the beds of newlyweds to promote desire and bless the union with children.

How to Use at Home

  • Diffuser – this is a discrete and gentle way to change the atmosphere of a room. Add 5-10 drops of any of the above essential oils to your diffuser. Start it up as soon as both you and your partner are home. This will give you time to let your mind and body wind down.
  • massageMassage Oil – Many people may feel reluctant to give a massage simply because they have not given one before. The fear of it feeling awkward, clumsy, or inconsistent is enough to hold one back. But lets face it, any massage feels good, especially if it’s coming from the person who loves you unconditionally! Mix your choice of essential oil into a carrier oil such as coconut or sweet almond oil, warm in your hands and let your intuition guide you! Don’t be scared to ask for pointers or to take turns!
  • Bath oil – bathing with your lover is a treat for all senses. Bathing together promotes intimacy, comfort, and tenderness. In running water add 5 drops of your essential oil. Once the bath is drawn add a few more drops to your desired intensity. Things you may wish to add alongside the bath include candlelight, soft music, refreshing drinks, or a cool compress to apply in case either of you feel overheated.
